Native American Flute Beginner’s Workshop
Imagine learning to play an instrument without years of studying sheet music or complex techniques. This is an opportunity to express your creativity in a relaxed and easy way. Well, try this: The Native American Flute, a legacy from Nations that will stay with you for a lifetime. Wind instruments have been used by humans for more than 33,000 years in many different cultures around the Globe. The origins of the Native American Flute lie largely in the mists of time, and oral history suggests that it was originally a gift from a ‘Great Spirit’ or the ‘Creator’. The Native American flute is not just an instrument, it is a healing tool. It helps change negative emotions and can easily take you and others into a meditative and peaceful state of mind, while improving your breathing. It's a great instrument to play in nature and ceremonies, just like Native Americans still do. The main objective of this beginner’s workshop is to get familiar with the instrument and its benefits. At the end of the session, you will be able to improvise some music and start your own path towards finding your unique intuitive sound. Some of the things we will cover during the Beginner’s workshop are:
- Anatomy of the flute - Cultural context and new trends - Posture and breathing -
Fingering - Pentatonic scale - Playing from the hearth & playing from the mind.
- Types of flutes and keys - How to choose your flute - Care of the flute
- Play time! Flute provided but can also BYO
